This
prairie falcon was lost by a German falconer living south of
Bremen. While flying his bird the visibility deteriorated and
although his falcon had a transmitter mounted, it was never
located.
One week later his bird showed up in Denmark close to
the German border. I was advised that a falconer's bird had been
seen at a certain location for two days and one evening it was
sitting in a hedge. I arrived just before sunrise and twenty minutes
later the falcon was found. It came to the lure at once. Being a
very gentle bird I could pick it up easily.
By means of the ring
number it was possible to find the breeder and he of course knew
the owner.
The
following weekend I witnessed a happy reunion when the falconer
collected his bird.
